Many couples decide to add a special touch to their ceremony by writing there own wedding vows. If creative writing isn’t your strong suit don’t worry, you don’t have to be a professional writer to jot down what your heart is telling you. Just follow these easy steps…
5. If after all of this, you still can’t think of anything maybe it’s time to consult a creative writer. They will definitely be able to help!
Katie and Krishna met while working together at a hospital in New York. They recently moved to Albuquerque, and after being together for several years they decided it was time to get married! They both share a love of hot air ballooning and decided that there was no better place to wed than the Anderson-Abruzzo Balloon museum in Albuquerque. Bill Howden of Marriage Makers facilitated the ceremony that overlooked the spectacular views of the Sandia Mountains. With this venue, it was obvious that the theme would center on hot air balloons. From the table centerpieces to the cake, hot air balloons were everywhere! They were even on the invitations that were created by Elva Marie’s Fine Paper. The stunning sugar-free cake was created especially for the couple by Birdie at Say it with Cake. The photographer for the event was Marie from Marie Leslie Photography. She is the photographer that took the great pictures on this blog!
If you purchased any diamonds from January 1, 1994 to March 31, 2006, you may be able to get some cash back from this settlement. Go to the following website and get all the details.
Once upon a time, newlyweds kept their wedding photos in a 5×7 or 8×10 frame on their office desks. Others kept tiny photos tucked away in their wallets. Today, that’s all changed. The new trend is to keep all your wedding photos and even your wedding videos on an iPod or similar device. If you have marriage plans, don’t forget to ask your wedding photographer or videographer, if they can put the memories of your wedding on an iPod. Then, the next time you want to reminisce or show your family and friends images from your special wedding day, you will have them close at hand, either in your purse or in your back pocket. No, it’s not exactly podcasting in a technical sense, but instant access to your wedding day memories certainly will bring a lot of smiles to a lot of faces–especially yours!
As you begin to receive wedding invitations in the mail this season you’ll probably start noticing that most brides and grooms have their own wedding website. This is an affordable way to let your guests know about all of the big day events that will be happening for your celebration. Besides having all the specifics, it can be a fun and easy way for guests to interact with you and at times help with some of the planning and decision making (especially if you are having a hard time making decisions on your own). Site hosts are now offering cool features like blogs, polls, and quizzes. All of which can be used to solicit advice from your friends and family on your weddings’ details. If you can’t decide on a cake flavor or entrée, just ask your guests to vote. This is also a good place to provide maps and directions, and details for any hotel accommodations that you are having.
Now that you have a site, how do you promote it? Be sure to have your website name listed on your Save the Dates; have your bridal shower host to refer to your site for registry info; add an extra insert to your wedding invitations with the information; call your closest friends and tell them all about it! Below are the links to popular wedding website hosts. I especially like these ones because you can create a domain name that incorporate your own names!
What’s going to be hot for weddings in 2008? Check out the list below for the latest trends that are on the horizon.
Colors- Purple will be the color of the season! Look out for shades of purple that range from lavender to plum. Also popular colors will be emerald, sapphire, and ruby. Surprisingly couples will lean towards using metallic gold and silver to accent their regal color palette. All will be popular for décor and attire.
Going Green- You’ll see more and more “green” weddings this year. Mostly this will have an impact on color choices, invitations, favors, and décor.
Attire – European brides are choosing to use deep, rich colors for their bridesmaids’ dresses AND for their own wedding gowns. North American brides continue to stay with traditional white and ivory wedding gowns but use the rich bold colors in the accent details. Gowns with multi layered fabric such as tinted voile and chiffon are layered over the white dress to create a different silhouette. A lot of brides will also turn to colored crinoline underskirts, and some brides are even coloring the soles of their bridal shoes.Vintage Hollywood is in and we’ll see vintage influences that take us back to the early days of Rita Hayworth and Grace Kelly. Halter necklines, cap sleeves, light draping, strapless gowns, plunging necklines, antique lace, satin ribbons for straps, ruffles, tea-length dresses in Spring and Summer, plus diamond or rhinestone accessories, and open-toed stilettos and dangling earrings all add to the vintage affect.
Florals- More popular than ever are exotic flowers. Brides are having an increasing interest in returning to the cascade style of bouquet.
Design and Decor - Color will play a big part for weddings in 2008. While sashes, ribbons, and embroidered details, are in beautifully inspired colors, the bride will pull these bolder color choices into their respective selections for linens, wedding stationery, and additional décor and even into the wedding cake. At receptions square tables are even more popular especially with the new color pallets and themes. The colors chosen tend to be accentuated with the larger tables. Besides flowers, couples are choosing to using center pieces that guests are sure to enjoy, like chocoalte fountains, and full wine buckets.
Photography –Most couples are moving away from formal and posed shots, and want to capture candid moments. Also, “trash your dress” and other magazine styled shots are in high demand. Black and white photos are still popular, as well as colored shots to capture the wedding colors.
Destination weddings - This is already popular and will continue to be so even more in the next year.
Catering - Signature drinks and family recipes are extremely popular. Ethnic themed dishes such as Middle Eastern, Latin and Mediterranean themes are the new trend.
Glamorous Weddings - Lastly, glamour is definitely the buzz word of the year. Affluent couples are opting for the most lavish and sophisticated affairs for their wedding.
Here are a few things to keep in mind if you are considering having your wedding during the holiday season…
1. Book your venue early! Hotels and other popular party spots book up quickly because of large amount of parties that are happening at this time of year.
2. Find out how your venue decorates for this special time of year. This will be helpful when deciding your colors and theme. The venue may also let you use all or some of their decorations and this can save you a lot of money!
3. Remember that this is a special time of year for guests, and you may not have as many guests as originally anticipate. Be sure to send out a Save the Date card, and get your invitations out early! At least 3 months ahead for out of town guests and 2 months for locals.
4. Don’t forget about the fabulous sales that are happening at this time of year! This would be a great time to look for bridal party gifts, holiday themed favors, lights, and candles.
5. Making a holiday wish list to give to your friends and family? Don’t be embarrassed to ask for things that you would like for your wedding. Gift certificates for the photographer or the salon that you will be using will surely come in handy.
6. This is the perfect time to get your guest list in order! If you and family members are sending out holiday cards try to rememeber to get any addresses that you may need to complete your wedding invitation list. This is easier to do now, rather than wait until they are all packed up again!
Everyone loves candy, and right now brides and grooms love it more than ever! An increasingly popular trend is the candy buffet or confection bar. This designated station at a reception where a variety of candies or treats are placed in various sized and colored containers, and are grouped on a table. Usually nicer spoons and/or scoops are placed in each container so that guests can fill small boxes or bags as take-home favors. If candy doesn’t suit you, other ideas might be to have petit fours, snack cakes (twinkies, ho-ho’s, hostess cupcakes), or even doughnuts.
I was recently on a Southwest flight when I picked up their in-flight magazine. In it I found a short article, called Trash the Dress. While I didn’t immediately recognize the term, I understood the process. As a professional photographer and videographer, it’s something I’ve done in the past, but not very often. Looks like trashing started getting media attention earlier this year. You can find information on CNN, ABC, YouTube, and with a search using your favorite search engine.
If you don’t already know what the term “Trash the Dress” is, read on. It’s nothing more than a trendy name for what photographers and cinematographers have been doing for years–non-traditional wedding photo shoots. In this case, the rule is to not worry about damaging formal wear.
The goal isn’t really to “Trash the Dress”, but to shoot some great photos or video without worrying about potential and sometimes real damage to the costumes the models are wearing. The models are real life brides and grooms and the costumes are their wedding formal wear. Typically, you would not trash your gown until after your ceremony and reception. Sometimes trashing could be part of the reception festivities. In many cases, you would do it on a different day, probably after your Honeymoon.
Trashing the dress certainly isn’t for everyone. It may seem antithetical to forever damage a multi-thousand dollar wedding gown that so much care has been taken to preserve for your special wedding day. That certainly is true for many brides. On the other hand, how many millions of gowns have never been worn more than once, ending up in a closet just to disintegrate with time. Depending on the results you want, you can minimize the risks to your wedding gown. For example, you might be able to get it cleaned after getting water on it from a session in a swimming pool or from climbing a small cliff.
If “Trashing the Dress” piques your interest, ask your wedding photographer or videographer about a “Trash the Dress” session or ask your wedding coordinator to help you plan one.
